Interim Ministry

Church doorThere are times in the life of a congregation or religious organization where it is helpful or necessary to have someone provide supply ministry services or for a longer, but defined period, as an interim ministry resource person. There are many reasons that this may be required:

  1. The church is in a growth phase, and requires additional pastoral or worship leadership resources.
  2. The current minister may be absent from the parish / pastoral charge for a period of time and there may be a need for interim ministry or pulpit supply.
  3. There may be an interim period during a pastoral vacancy while the church searches for a new full time minister.
  4. There may be short-term ministry or chaplaincy needs during vacation or other periods.

These periods of interim ministry can also times of renewal and growth for Christian communities. Many churches take this time to work at deeper theological issues affecting the spiritual life of the congregation.
