Spiritual Renewal (Transforming Lives)

There is a great need for a spiritual renewal in our land. We in the Western world sometimes forget that we are spiritual beings – people are born with the ability to develop an awareness of the sanctity and sacredness of not just of life, but also of creation in itself.
We have noted the membership decline and church closures faced by the Christian church in North America and Europe. Many people are leaving the church. The Canadian statistics tell an interesting story. In the period 1980 to 2004, Canada's largest denomination, the United Church of Canada, had a decrease of 200,000 households under pastoral care (representing a compound annual rate of decline of 1.36%).
Prior to 1971, less than one percent of the Canadian population reported having no religion. In 2001, that percentage increased to sixteen percent of the population, or just under 4.8 million people, compared with 3.3 million a decade earlier. At the same time, the number of Ontario residents who reported that they had no religion increased forty-eight percent to more than 1.8 million. It is clear from our research that the majority of Canadians do not look to the church to satisfy their spiritual needs.
Having said all of the above, there is strong evidence that there is a spiritual hunger in the land. Many people have lost faith in the institutional church because the church has "forgotten how to be the church." Respondents to a recent study undertaken by Rev. Dr. Stephen McAllister noted that they left their denomination (in these cases to move to other denominations) because of the spiritual malaise in the liberal protestant church.
We believe that people outside the institutional church are looking for spiritual support and Christian ministry services. We provide ministry services where we are able, and we encourage people to find a local faith community where they can grow in faith, and learn about the promises of God as proclaimed in Holy Scriptures.
