Human Resource Management for Clergy
Churches can be stressful places to work. The winter 1996 issue of Leadership, a national survey of Protestant clergy that revealed 23% of ministers report they have been fired at least once, and 43% said that a faction (usually fewer than 10 persons) forced them to resign.
Spirit Renewal Ministries works with churches and church leaders to work towards the norms of shalom and mutuality. The environment of shalom is experienced when people are engaged in acts of righteousness and justice, which results in the development of "a viable community." In this community of shalom, the oppressed and the marginalized have "dignity and power." The writer of the Psalms points the community toward an inclusive and peace-seeking way of being – one that seeks goodness and peace.
Psalm 34:14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
Jesus came to establish God's will for shalom in a world that was accustomed to being governed and judged by “the law,” a law that disenfranchised many, excluded the marginalized and favoured the male-dominated patriarchal society. Jesus lived and taught by example: he embraced and cared for women, children, the sick, the cast-out and the forgotten – he did this with compassion in such a way that all persons had dignity.Stephen's pastoral skills, as well as his expertise in crisis intervention, team building, and leadership development are helpful to the church as it seeks to address issues affecting the health of the church. Stephen has obtained specialized training in crisis and grief counseling. Stephen has specialized training in chaplaincy, and he is a certified MBTI professional.(More information on the Myers Briggs Type Indicator)
